Hey,
I bought a Maplin N16JA Digital film and slide scanner with Filmimager software Arcsoft Impression 2. £39.95 (probably 5 months back,and thought i'd save it for a rainy day !!) The Maplin user manual says 'no drivers' required fro this device???really???? My desktop with windows xpsp3 doesnt recognise the film scanner,  and yes, the software provided is loaded.Our laptop with exactly the same spec recognises the film scanner, but ......our laptop doesn't have a drive fro me to load the software... ive been working on this for 3 1/2 hrs, scouring the web for the software to download on the laptop. I cant even find the software on 'this Arcsoftwebsite'...its pouring down outside and i just wanted to start loading up my old negatives as i've got box's to work through...what a xxit day!!! Please, could someone help me, or does someone want to buy this off me before i test how well it flys!!! |

I am in the same situation except I purchased an OTEK FS-500-2 film scanner. Same result. Laptop running Windows7 will not recognise the scanner! Could it be a firewall issue? I have been all over the web site trying to get support but I am not getting anywhere???

just wanted to add my woes my maplin scanner worked once under XP (desktop)but now refuses to show captures
so I put it on my vista laptop and it works fine but I havent connected it to the net assuming this is the problem somehow any thoughts ? ps its about time somebody replied to the first posts |

Hi I bought a Maplin N16JA late last year--It worked perfectly for about 2 months then the weather improved so I did other things. Then last week rather heavy rain and I decided to do some slide scanning and hey presto the damned scanner would not work on the copy button or the loaded software--all I got was a cryptic message--Cannot load Media Browser--uninstalled and reinstalled software cd to no avail---searched internet and found nothing==I shall have to shell out more money but will pay a little more to obtain a scanner NOT built in China --UNLESS someone out there can offer us a solution SOON--or the scanner will be history

I too have a MAplin N16JA. On XPSP3 device recognised and software opens but will not capture or calibrate on Aquire. Will work on a laptop with Vista. Maplin tell ne to change the device type to FS500 (default is film&slide scanner). This cannot be changed as confirmed in the FS500 manual.
Maplin have changed scanner several time wothout success. I believe it is a software issue awaiting Arcsoft's help.

hey i bought that maplin gizmo today as i collect film cameras and still intend to use them as tom me a scanned neg and slide scanned at high res should be as good as an expensive DSLR i remember my dear old zenith taking photos at night with daylight film from miles away with standard lens and still getting an image,,i doubt an dslr could do that all i'd get is a white pixel..
anyway so fat ive plugged and loaded the stuff and scanned off some bw negs at max res interpolate and res is 5000odd px wide so that to too bad ,it captures in jpg and tiff so i use tiff but i stillse banding in the image a bit..a mate has a combi film scanner/printer/flatbed scanner..we did some negs a while back even save them as negs too..ok so do you guys want the software to dload then? will that help? i hope arcsoft will update the app or maybe theres other apps that use this scanner as you say it doesnt need driver if thats the case..then any image prg will use the acquire button, well an other one thought that a sd card was a device.!!..ok if you want the sw..as dload let me know
